Boeing's Nagpur MRO set for commissioning by December

MUMBAI: The much-delayed USD 100 million MRO (maintenance, overhaul and repair) facility, which is being jointly set up by Air India and US aircraft major Boeing at the Mihan SEZ in Nagpur is likely to be functional by the year end, sources said. 

"In all likelihood, the first flight from the MRO should take off by December," sources at Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) told PTI from Nagpur. 

The civil work on the project is over and now the installation of electronic equipment is to take place, sources said. 

"The installation work will also be completed in the next couple of months," a source added. 

Being built at an investment of USD 100 million (fully borne by Boeing) and spread over 50 acres, the Nagpur MRO is the offshoot of an agreement between Air India and Boeing Corporation following the Dreamliner orders placed with the the US company in 2006. 

Late last year, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had said the work on MRO facility would be completed by March 2013. 

Touted as one of the most modern MRO facilities in the sub-continent, it will service aircraft such as B-737s, B-777s and dreamliner B-787 Dreamliners of both domestic as well as international carriers. 

National carrier Air India, however, will be able to use the facility for free as part of Boeing's offset obligation. Also, the facility will have two wide-body hangars and a GE90/GENX engine overhaul shop. 

Air India had early this year hived off its MRO unit into a separate business entity, Air India Engineering Services and placed around 7,400 of its workforce under it. 

Besides undertaking the in-house maintenance, repair and overhaul of the Boeing aircraft, the MRO facility will also fetch business from third-parties to make the subsidiary viable.

MIHAN PROJECT

Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) is an airport project for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur. It is the biggest economical development project currently underway in India in terms of investments. The project aims to exploit the central location of Nagpur and convert the present airport into a major cargo hub with integrated road and rail connectivity.

The project has already spurred a real estate boom in Nagpur with property prices increasing 25 to 40 percent. Project is expected to add 12 million people to city’s population by means of direct and indirect employment.

NEW OUTER RING ROAD

NHAI is constructing four-lane outer Ring Road including construction of Kamptee-Kanhan and Nagpur by pass and maintenance of four-lane section constructed by Public Works. Department (PWD). The total length of the project is 117 Kms including 95 Kms from Khawasa (MP border ) to Wardha Road. The total cost of the project is Rs. 1,170 crore. The road between Mansar to Kanhan is already open for traffic .

HYATT ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR A HYATT PLACE HOTEL IN NAGPUR

Hyatt Place Nagpur will be the 24th Hyatt Place hotel under development in India

CHICAGO (August 22, 2012) – Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announced today that a Hyatt affiliate signed a management agreement with Unity Infraprojects Limited for a Hyatt Place hotel in Nagpur, India. Hyatt Place Nagpur marks the 24th Hyatt Place hotel under development in India, bringing the total number of announced Hyatt-branded hotels under development in India to 57.

“The development of the Hyatt Place hotels in India reflects our commitment to offering this select-service brand in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets,” said Ratnesh Verma, Senior Vice President - Real Estate and Development, Asia Pacific for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. “We are focused on creating preference by enhancing distribution of the Hyatt Place brand in both new and established markets in India where our guests are increasingly traveling.”

“This is a great moment for our company as this is our first hospitality venture,” said Kishore K. Avarsekar, Chairman and Managing Director of Unity Infraprojects Limited. “We are delighted to be associated with an internationally renowned group like Hyatt, a company that is known for its high standards. Expected to open in 2016, Hyatt Place Nagpur will be part of mixed use development on Wardha Road, which connects the city center to the airport. The hotel will feature 125 guestrooms and will offer a restaurant and bar, meeting space, a fitness center, and a pool. Hyatt Place Nagpur will be located less than five miles from the city’s airport, and will also be in close proximity to many of the city’s higher education institutions and retail areas, including Civil Lines, Ramdaspeth and Gokulpeth.

Four new Hyatt hotels are expected to open in India in the remainder of 2012 across the Park Hyatt, Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Place brands, including:

Park Hyatt Chennai, a 204-room hotel set to open in late 2012, will be situated in the capital city of the state ofTamil Nadu. The property will offer an innovative food and beverage outlets, residential style meeting and event space, and recreational facilities, including a spa and fitness center.

Hyatt Regency Gurgaon, a 452-room hotel set to open in late 2012, is situated on the National Highway 8, which links Delhi and Jaipur and is convenient to Delhi International Airport. The hotel will offer more than 42,700 sq ft (3,966 sq m) of meeting space, including a 24,000 sq ft (2,229 sq m) ballroom, which will accommodate the meeting, conference and event needs of nearby international corporations. Additional amenities will include a lobby lounge, a three-meal multi-cuisine restaurant and two specialty restaurants, a bar, a gourmet store, a four-treatment room spa, a fitness center, a swimming pool, and the Regency Club lounge.

Hyatt Place Hampi, a 115-room hotel planned to open by the end of the year, will be situated near the Bellary industrial district. Hampi, which features spectacular views of the Sandur ranges and is home to a group of monuments classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, also serves as a popular leisure destination. The property will include a multi-cuisine restaurant, meeting rooms, and a fitness center, and swimming pool.

Hyatt Place Pune, Hinjewadi, a 117-room property set to open at the end of the year, will be located within the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park at Hinjewadi, a prominent software hub. The hotel will feature a multi-cuisine restaurant and meeting space, as well as a business center, fitness center, and a pool

DLF to invest Rs 2,000 cr on Nagpur InfoTech Park

Real estate major DLF Ltd has launched a 140-acre IT SEZ at the Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN), Maharashtra. The company will invest an estimated Rs 2,000 crore on developing this project. It will generate employment for about 50,000 people. The total work space within the IT Park will be 8.5 million sq ft, which makes it DLF’s biggest IT Park to date. The project will be completed in three years. It has already received formal SEZ approval. The IT Park is situated close to the international Hub Airport.

DLF executive director (commercial) Y K Tyagi said: “With other big cities getting saturated, a city like Nagpur, which has good infrastructure, offers a lot of opportunity for the development of space catering to the IT-ITES sector.” Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) managing director R C Sinha, who laid the foundation stone for the park, said, “Today is a big day for MIHAN as work on the first project here has begun. Within the next three years, MIHAN will attract an estimated investment of Rs 17,000 crore.”

Other major IT companies that have purchased land in the MIHAN SEZ are Wipro, TCS, Shaporji and Pallonji, Dell Corporation, Satyam, L&T Infocity and Ascendas.  Ascendas and TCS  started work on their IT Parks.

Infosys Nagpur Development Center To Begin Operations In Next 3 Year

India’s second biggest software exporter Infosys (NASDAQ: INFY) has signed an MoU with the Government Of Maharashtra & MADC (Maharashtra Airport Development Authority) to setup a development center in the city of Nagpur. Infosys Nagpur will be Infy’s second development center in Maharashtra, after Pune. MADC promises to offer 142 acres of land at the ambitious MIHAN project in Nagpur. The total investment Infosys plans to make is around Rs. 100 crores

The Infosys Nagpur Development Center is expected to create about 2000 engineering jobs in Nagpur over a period of 5 years once it begins operations. However the long term plan includes creation of over 14000 IT jobs with a total investment of Rs. 412 crores. Infosys operates over 64 offices globally and is home to over 145000 engineers.

We’re excited to hear the news of Infosys planning to setup its development center at Nagpur. This move by the IT giant will enable central India retain the engineering & IT talent. India’s #1 software exporter, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has already in the process of establishing a BPO & development center in the city.
